• Dispersion by spraying chemicals

• Sedimentation by spraying a chemically-treated sand/water mixture

Oil recovery vessels are separated into first-line and second-line vessel types.

\n

\n

• First-line vessels can handle oils as a tanker (with a flash point below 140°F/60°C), with approval of the regulatory bodies. This means that insurance coverage is available. In addition to the inclusion of oil combat equipment, the vessel itself will have to comply with a significant number of additional design requirements.

\n

• Second-line vessels do not comply with the regulations applicable on tankers, and as a consequence, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Societies, are only able to operate with spilled oils with a flash point above 140°F/60°C.
